Pick Marin: harvesting local produce for our community

Mission Statement: Harvest fruit from Marin gardens and deliver the produce to local food banks and schools.  Incorporate PickMarin.org into educational curriculum impacting the diet and habits of Marin’s students.  Establish a management committee of middle and high school students to run the program in local schools

Why PickMarin: Vast quantities of fruit, mostly organic, fall from backyard trees never to be consumed.  Many owners would welcome the opportunity to have a portion of their harvest donated to local food banks or schools.  Creating a curriculum and activities around harvesting and consuming local fruit will have multiple impacts.  Immediately the diet and health of our community will be improved by providing exceptional fruit to a community whose food banks currently fail to meet demand.  Secondly encouraging healthy eating habits of students now and into the future will have an impact on their diet and health for generations.
