Welcome! We have set up PickMarin to connect two simple facts in our community: hunger and abundance. There are thousands of residents, including children, in Marin Count who go hungry every day.   At the same time however, there is literally tons of fruit in our backyards that never gets picked .  I hope our community can come together and  build the "green solution to hunger".  Lets start buy picking fruit in our backyards and then see where we can go from there.   This is a group effort,  let us know about your tree , write comments and suggestions on our blog, or sign-up on our mailing list for updates and harvest schedules.
Thank you for joining PickMarin.org - lets make a difference

This is a great idea! American suburbs have so much land that could be made more beautiful and productive, rather than just fields of "lawn."

Two comments other than BRAVO for starting this wonderful way to make use of what lots of us have thought about but didn't know how to do.
1. One way to utilize the fruit may be to juice it and freeze it in small amounts, usable in recipes later. We freeze fruit juices and leftover wine for cooking in ice cube trays...
2. Once the backyard farmers and community gardens get going this would be an awesome way to utilize the extra veggies that we grow that sometimes can't get used quick enough.
The next step might be to have folks help the food banks make these foods better available later by preparing them for canning or freezing for later use.
Keep up the wonderful work. I am sooo glad someone is feeding OUR hungry people. Please make sure to include access by the homeless who would like help out of their dilemmas. Some are quick to help in order to get food for themselves and their dogs.

Hi,
I've been doing just this in West Marin for the last 3 years! I pick folks extra fruit and take it to the West Marin Food Bank. Maybe we can share resources or maybe you can help me set somthing up for my kids school ( Nicasio School)
